This lesson will teach you how to work safely and minimize the risks associated with field research, during which hazards are more dynamic and less controlled than they are in a laboratory setting.

Upon successful completion of this course, you should have a better understanding of how to:

Distinguish between your role and responsibilities as a field researcher (including reporting work-related incidents, injuries, or accidents) and the roles and responsibilities of the principal investigator and team leader.

Recognize the importance of preparing for time in the field by obtaining appropriate medical treatment, including vaccinations; obtaining necessary travel documents, assembling the required personal protective equipment, and training for designated activities.

Identify potential hazards involved in fieldwork and methods to prevent yourself from being injured.

Recognize the unique risks involved in field research and the ways to help mitigate those risks, as well as actions to take in the event of an emergency.
