This Corrective Action Training module is designed to provide learners with remedial training related to merging and exiting. Specifically, this course was designed to prepare drivers to safely merge onto or exit from a highway by considering the size of their vehicle, reduced visibility, vehicle weight, sharpness of a curved ramp and their speed on the ramp.

Course Topics

Introduction

Vehicle size and reduced visibility can make merging difficult.

There are nine steps to safely merge onto or exit from a highway.

Vehicle weight, high center of gravity, and sharpness of the curve pose a rollover danger.

Slow down to at least 5 mph below the posted speed limit.

Reduce speed to at least 5 mph below the posted speed limit on curved ramps.

Signal and merge as soon as possible, check your mirrors, and shift into a lower gear as you exit a highway.

Don’t forget to deactivate your turn signal.
